Performance Comparison of Active Network-Based and Non Active Network-Based Single-Rate Multicast Congestion Control Protocols

چکیده
This paper presents the comparisons of two single-rate multicast protocol, Active Error Recovery/Nominee Congestion Avoidance (AER/ NCA) and Pragmatic General Multicast Congestion Control (PGMCC). Both protocols use worst receiver mechanism, NACK-based feedback, and window-based transmission rate adjustment. AER/NCA is implemented using the new Active Networks technology, while PGMCC is implemented using the traditional passive network. We discovered from the simulation results that both protocols are TCP-friendly. The implementation of active networks causes many computations to be done in the network so that it would degrade network performance. However, in high loss rates network, active networks technology could provide fast recovery to loss packets.

Single Rate Multicast Congestion Control Protocols : A Performance Comparison
Multicast Congestion Control (MCC) at the transport layer is a very difficult problem that has been the target of the research community for nearly the last ten years. There exist two broad categories of Multicast Congestion Control (MCC) solutions, Single-Rate and Multi-Rate. For the single Rate solutions, the source multicasts data packets according to the rate of the slowest receiver, wherea...
متن کاملPerformance of Active Multicast Congestion Control
This paper aims to provide insight into the behavior of congestion control mechanisms for reliable multicast protocols. A multicast congestion control based on active networks has been proposed and simulated using ns-2 over a network topology obtained using the Tiers tool. The congestion control mechanism has been simulated under different network conditions and with different settings of its c...
متن کاملA Programmable ATM Multicast Service with Congestion Control
This paper presents a design and implementation of a ATM multicast service based on programmable and active network concepts. It aims to address the design and implementation issues of creating new network services—multicast in this case—through a set of corba-based network interfaces, and with a java based user codes injection mechanism for supporting customization of network services. We demo...
متن کاملEnergy optimization based on routing protocols in wireless sensor network
Considering the great significant role that routing protocols play in transfer rate and choosing the optimum path for exchange of data packages, and further in the amount of consumed energy in the routing protocol, the present study has focused on developing an efficient compound energy algorithm based on cluster structure which is called active node with cluster structure. The purpose of this ...
متن کاملAn Adaptive Congestion Alleviating Protocol for Healthcare Applications in Wireless Body Sensor Networks: Learning Automata Approach
Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) involve a convergence of biosensors, wireless communication and networks technologies. WBSN enables real-time healthcare services to users. Wireless sensors can be used to monitor patients’ physical conditions and transfer real time vital signs to the emergency center or individual doctors. Wireless networks are subject to more packet loss and congestion. T...
